IDLIR SHYTI

Idlir Shyti is a london based classical cellist. His passion for contemporary music has led him to perform solo and chamber works at festivals including the Cheltenham Festival and the Festival of Contemporary Music for All, as a member of the ensembles IXION and Chineke. Most recently, he has performed Tangle by Morgan Hayes in London and The Other Person by Andrew Toovey in New York, both works written especially for him.

 

In 2022, he released the album Intercourse of Fire and Water, featuring 20th-century works for solo cello, including the world premiere recording of the title work by Tan Dun. This was followed in 2024 by the album Joseph Sonnabend – Instrumental and Chamber Works, in which he performs three world premiere works by composer Joseph Sonnabend.

 

As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as the Südwestdeutsche Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Albanian Radio and Television Orchestra, Southbank Sinfonia, among others. A dedicated chamber musician, he has also been invited to perform at the Rome Chamber Music Festival, Leamington Festival, and Anghiari Festival.

 

Passionate for orchestral music, he collaborates regularly with leading ensembles including the Philharmonia Orchestra, English National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Concert Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and Welsh National Opera.

 

Idlir Shyti completed his studies in Paris, obtaining the Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste under the guidance of Anssi Karttunen at the École Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot. He graduated with a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Music in London where he studied with Richard Lester and Bachelor degree at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Maurizio Gambini. Throughout his artistic journey, he has performed for renowned figures of the classical music world, including Yo-Yo Ma and Gary Hoffman, among others.
